Rosario
Capital of the flag, gelato, and football
Rosario is a city on the banks of the Paraná River, in the province of Santa Fe, Argentina. It’s a place where history meets modernity, and rich culture blends with beautiful natural spaces.
Here, Manuel Belgrano raised the Argentine flag for the first time in 1812—commemorated by the imposing National Flag Monument. For this reason, the historic center was also declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
It was also the birthplace of prominent figures such as Che Guevara, writer Roberto Fontanarrosa, and footballer Lionel Messi.
But Rosario is all that and much more. It’s a destination full of attractions for all ages—from parks and squares like the vast Parque de la Independencia to the Paraná River waterfront—along with a cultural scene that flourishes in its theaters, museums, and art galleries.
The city is also a sports epicenter. Stadiums like “El Gigante de Arroyito” (Club Atlético Rosario Central) and “Marcelo Alberto Bielsa,” known as “El Coloso del Parque,” (Club Atlético Newell’s Old Boys) are places where the passion for football is lived intensely.
As for gastronomy, in Rosario you’ll find a wide variety of dishes based on local river catch from the Paraná, as well as classic parrillas specializing in Argentine beef cuts.
And what about gelato? Rosario proudly holds the title of “National Capital of Artisan Gelato.” Its ice cream shops are a temptation you can’t pass up.
